The Wehr Nature Center holds a special place in my heart. One of the first internships I got out of college was working there as a Natural Areas Assistant.

It. was. AWESOME!

Working outside, learning about the different plants and animals was just the breath of fresh air I was looking for. I stayed for three summers and soaked up as much as I could from the amazing educators. Everyone that worked there was passionate about environmental education as well as making Wehr accessible to all people. About ten years later, they still are!

When Tim and I had Lily, I knew that I wanted her to experience all the classes, special events, and volunteer opportunities that I had observed through my time there. Before the pandemic hit, she was able to attend Little Wonders, Bug Day, and Cider Sunday! But there is so much more to discover!

When it came time for our family to move, the gravitational force of the nature center pulled me in, and now I'm happy to say visits are a short walk from our house. One of my great loves is birding, and and Wehr I've gotten to see so many new species. It's a place where my parents and I can hike and talk, and where I can meet up with my former Wehr coworkers who are life long friends. 

I would like Lily, and all children, to be able to continue learning about nature and the importance of conservation, recycling, diversity, etc. The Wehr Nature Center is so well equipped to do so, but it has to stay open.

Wehr Nature Center (WNC) is an urban nature preserve offering natural history and community science/service programs to all ages throughout Milwaukee County. Staff and volunteers inspire people to explore and value the natural world. Wehr is open daily, year-round.  

Friends of Wehr Nature Center is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes Wehr Nature Center and its  programs. During these challenging times our need for nature's physical and mental healing benefits has proven stronger than ever. And Wehr Nature Center needs your help! Wehr's fall calendar is usually full of events and fundraisers that help support the center financially. At a time when large gatherings are unsafe, was designed. During this three week fundraising challenge there will be something for everyone - a virtual walk, fun challenges, nature experiences and more!
